activation screen freezes

When I setup Vista, I get to the activation screen, I enter the key that was provided along with my downlaod, nothig happense, it just sits there forever. So I entrered my actual key I had with XP Pro and it tells me it's unvalid. How come it answers right away with my old one and nothing happens with the one provided by Microsoft? Roch
